2026 Kia Stonic

2026 Kia Stonic: Bold New Design, Big-Tech Cabin, and the Manual Gearbox Lives On

The compact crossover segment is one of the most competitive corners of the UK car market, but Kia is doubling down with the new 2026 Kia Stonic—a heavily updated model that brings sharper styling, a premium-feeling interior and, crucially, continues to offer pure-petrol and mild-hybrid engines with a manual option.

While many rivals are drifting away from small engines and traditional gearboxes, the Stonic stands out by giving UK buyers what they actually want: efficiency, affordability, and proper driver engagement.

Sharper, More Confident Design

A redesigned front fascia with Kia’s Star Map Signature Lighting.
A sharper, more structured grille.
A new front bumper with stronger definition.
A redesigned tailgate and updated taillight signature.
Cleaner, more modern rear bumper styling.
New 16-inch and 17-inch alloy wheels, including GT-Line-exclusive 17" options.
Two new bold colours: Adventurous Green and Yacht Blue.

Despite its new angular look, the Stonic retains the compact footprint UK city drivers appreciate: 352 litres of boot space, making it a perfect fit for narrow roads, tight parking and weekend getaways.

A Premium Interior for a Small SUV Budget

The 2026 Kia Stonic makes a big leap in interior quality, taking clear inspiration from Kia’s more premium models. It features dual 12.3-inch panoramic displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment system, along with a Multimode Touch Display that switches between climate and media controls.

The dashboard, centre console, steering wheel designs and gear knob have all been updated, while USB-C fast charging, wireless phone charging and ambient lighting add to the modern feel.

The twin-screen setup is especially impressive for a compact crossover, bringing tech usually found in larger, more expensive SUVs. Kia Connect also enhances the experience with cloud-based services, live diagnostics, remote vehicle access through the app and, depending on UK trim levels, a Digital Key.

Tech and Safety Upgrades That Punch Above Its Weight

Kia has significantly upgraded the Stonic’s safety package, potentially making it one of the most advanced small SUVs in the UK. New and improved features include Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist with Safe Exit Warning, the latest Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 1.5 system, Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control, Highway Driving Assist and Lane Following Assist.

For a compact crossover at this price point, the inclusion of features like Highway Driving Assist—usually reserved for more expensive electric and hybrid models—marks a major step up in capability.

Petrol and Mild-Hybrid Powertrains - With a Manual Option

The UK will continue with the dependable 1.0-litre turbo three-cylinder engine, offered in pure-petrol and 48V mild-hybrid forms. The pure-petrol version produces 99bhp and reaches 62mph in 11.0 seconds, with CO₂ emissions between 125 and 133g/km depending on spec. The mild-hybrid model delivers 113bhp, cuts the 0–62mph time to 10.7 seconds and emits 120 to 129g/km.

Both engines can be paired with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DCT automatic. The manual gearbox is becoming rare in this class, so its continued availability will appeal to UK drivers who enjoy a more traditional, engaging feel.

Pricing hasn’t been confirmed, but with the current model starting at £22,085, the updated Stonic is expected to remain competitive despite its extensive upgrades.
