2027 CUPRA Born

2027 CUPRA Born: Sharper Design, More Technology and Up to 373 Miles of Electric Range

The 2027 CUPRA Born marks the next chapter for CUPRA’s first fully electric model. First introduced in 2021, the Born quickly established itself as one of the most distinctive electric hatchbacks on UK roads, combining Volkswagen Group EV technology with expressive design and a driver-focused character.

Now, CUPRA has given the Born a comprehensive update for 2027, bringing a sharper exterior design, improved interior quality and more advanced technology while strengthening the car’s emotional connection with the driver. Production of the updated Born began in the second quarter of 2026 at the Volkswagen Zwickau Vehicle Plant, with UK deliveries starting in summer 2026.

For British buyers searching for a stylish electric hatchback with strong range and engaging driving dynamics, the revised Born aims to remain one of the most appealing options in the segment.

Sharper CUPRA Design Language

The updated Born adopts CUPRA’s latest design language, aligning it visually with newer models such as the CUPRA Tavascan and CUPRA Terramar.

At the front, the car now features CUPRA’s distinctive three-triangle lighting signature integrated into new Matrix LED headlights. These adaptive headlights adjust their beam pattern automatically to avoid dazzling oncoming drivers while maintaining maximum road visibility.

A redesigned grille with a parametric pattern improves both visual sophistication and aerodynamic efficiency, while CUPRA’s signature copper detailing continues to reinforce the brand’s unique identity.

The rear of the car has also been reworked with a redesigned bumper and tailgate, alongside a more prominent diffuser that emphasises the Born’s sporty stance. New LED tail lights incorporate the triangular lighting motif, while the illuminated CUPRA badge now features a subtle three-dimensional lighting effect.

Additional exterior updates include illuminated front and rear door handles, new 19- and 20-inch alloy wheel designs and a refreshed colour palette. The new Timanfaya Grey paint joins existing colours such as Glacial White, Aurora Blue, Midnight Black and Vapor Grey.

A More Premium and Driver-Focused Interior

Inside the cabin, the updated Born introduces significant improvements to technology and usability.

One of the biggest upgrades is the new 10.25-inch digital driver display, replacing the previous 5.3-inch unit and providing clearer information and improved integration into the dashboard layout.

This works alongside a larger 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen powered by CUPRA’s latest Android-based operating system. The system offers access to a built-in app store, improved connectivity features and CUPRA’s signature illuminated sliding bar beneath the display.

Importantly, CUPRA has responded to customer feedback by reintroducing physical buttons on the steering wheel, replacing the previous capacitive controls and making everyday operation easier.

The interior maintains its driver-focused layout with the dashboard angled towards the driver and copper accents running throughout the cabin. Standard bucket seats use SEAQUAL® Yarn made from recycled marine plastics, while optional Dinamica® recycled textile upholstery further reinforces the Born’s sustainability credentials.

Rear passenger comfort has also improved thanks to the addition of rear air vents and redesigned door panels, helping create a more cohesive and higher-quality interior environment.

Electric Performance with Everyday Practicality

Underneath its updated styling, the Born continues to use the Volkswagen MEB platform, which underpins many Volkswagen Group electric vehicles including the Volkswagen ID.3.

UK buyers can choose between 58kWh and 79kWh battery options, with rear-mounted electric motors producing between 187PS and 228PS in standard versions.

The range-topping CUPRA Born VZ pushes performance further. Its 79kWh battery powers a 240kW (326PS) electric motor producing 545Nm of torque, allowing the electric hatchback to accelerate from 0–62mph in just 5.6 seconds before reaching a top speed of 124mph.

Despite its increased performance, the larger battery can deliver an electric range of up to around 373 miles (600km), making the Born one of the more capable electric hatchbacks for longer UK journeys.

Rapid charging is also improved. The 79kWh battery supports up to 185kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to recharge from 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes under ideal conditions.

New Driving Technologies

The updated Born introduces several technologies designed to enhance the driving experience.

One of the most notable additions is one-pedal driving, allowing drivers to control acceleration and deceleration using only the accelerator pedal in many situations. Lifting off the pedal activates regenerative braking, slowing the vehicle while recovering energy and reducing the need for the brake pedal.

Higher-powered models also include steering-wheel-mounted paddles that allow drivers to adjust regenerative braking levels, offering more control over how the car behaves when lifting off the throttle.

The Born’s drive modes include Range, Comfort, Performance and CUPRA settings, adjusting steering response, throttle behaviour and suspension characteristics. Models fitted with Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) allow drivers to fine-tune suspension settings for a more personalised driving experience.

The VZ model also introduces launch control, maximising traction and torque delivery to achieve the quickest possible acceleration from a standstill.

Enhanced Connectivity and Digital Features

Technology plays a central role in the updated Born’s appeal.

Drivers can unlock and start the vehicle using a Mobile Device Key, allowing smartphones to act as the car key while sharing access with up to four additional users.

Inside the cabin, USB-C charging ports provide up to 90W of charging power, while a wireless charging pad with cooling technology is available for compatible smartphones.

An optional 10-speaker Sennheiser audio system with Contrabass technology delivers deeper low-frequency sound using psychoacoustic processing to create a richer listening experience.

The Born also introduces Vehicle-to-Load capability, allowing the car’s battery to power external devices such as laptops, e-bikes or outdoor equipment.

Advanced Driver Assistance and Safety

The updated Born includes an expanded range of driver assistance technologies designed to improve safety and convenience.

The latest Travel Assist system integrates cloud-based data to adjust speed automatically when approaching bends, speed bumps or pedestrian crossings. The system works alongside Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Assist to help maintain safe positioning on the road.

Other safety systems include Crossroad Assist to help prevent junction collisions, upgraded Front Assist emergency braking and enhanced Pre-Crash protection that prepares the vehicle in the event of a potential impact.

Matrix LED headlights also improve night-time driving by automatically adjusting the beam pattern to maximise illumination without dazzling other road users.

A Stronger Contender in the Electric Hatchback Market

Since the Born first launched, the electric hatchback market has expanded rapidly. Competitors such as the Renault Mégane E‑Tech Electric, MG4 and Volkswagen ID.3 have intensified competition in this segment.

With its sharper design, improved cabin technology and extended electric driving range, the 2027 CUPRA Born aims to remain one of the most characterful electric hatchbacks available in the UK.

It continues to combine performance-inspired styling with everyday practicality, proving that electric mobility can still deliver personality, excitement and driver engagement.
